Three accepted options

Blocked account (Sperrkonto)At least €11,904, with a monthly disposal limit of €992
Formal sponsorship (Verpflichtungserklärung)From a sponsor living in Germany
ScholarshipOnly German government or EU-funded awards are accepted

How the blocked account works

You deposit the full amount with an approved provider before your appointment. After arrival you can withdraw up to €992 a month. Health insurance and the semester contribution are extra, so plan for more than the blocked amount.
