Start with an exact course and intake. Check official institutional and award-provider pages for nationality rules, study level, selection criteria and what is covered. Save the deadline with its time zone and distinguish the scholarship application from the course application. A tuition award does not automatically cover living expenses.
What counts as verified funding?
Award terms on the provider’s website establish what you may apply for; an official award letter establishes what you have actually received. Keep possible awards outside your confirmed budget.
Read an award as a set of conditions
| Award detail | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Coverage | Record whether the award pays tuition, a fixed sum, living costs or specific expenses. |
| Eligibility | Check nationality, residence, degree level, subject, entry year and academic conditions. |
| Selection | Distinguish automatic consideration from a separate competitive application. |
| Duration | A first-year reduction is different from support for the whole degree. |
| Continuation | Check any minimum results, enrolment or reporting conditions. |
| Combining awards | Ask whether another scholarship changes the amount or eligibility. |
Plan two budgets
Prepare a budget without the scholarship and another using only an award that has been formally confirmed. If the unfunded version is not affordable, decide how long you can wait for a funding decision before accepting an offer or paying a non-refundable amount. Record the date by which you must accept the scholarship and any conditions still to be met.
Prepare evidence for selection
Use the awarding body’s prompt to choose relevant achievements, projects, leadership or financial circumstances to describe. Explain your own contribution with concrete examples. Obtain consent before naming a referee and allow time for the required submission method. Keep the application and award decision in your records; a nomination or eligibility check is not an award.
