Entry requirements

Manchester asks for a 4-year bachelor’s from a reputable Bangladeshi university, typically with GPA 3.2 out of 4. Sheffield accepts a 4-year bachelor’s, or a 3 or 4-year bachelor’s followed by a master’s, and treats 65% or GPA 3.25 as a 2:1 and 55% or GPA 2.75 as a 2:2. English is usually IELTS 6.5 or more.

Apply directly on each university’s website. You do not use UCAS for most master’s courses.

Family, work and after graduating

  • Family: taught master’s students cannot bring a partner or children. Only government-sponsored students and research postgraduates on courses of 9 months or more can.
  • Work: up to 20 hours a week in term and full time in official vacations.
  • After: the Graduate Route gives 2 years if you apply before 1 January 2027, then 18 months.

UK master’s degrees are widely recognised, but check with your employer or regulator if you need it for a specific profession.

Can I do a master’s with a 3-year degree?

Some universities accept it only with a further qualification; Sheffield needs a master’s on top of a 3-year bachelor’s.

How much money must I show for the visa?

Outstanding first-year tuition plus £1,171 a month for 9 months outside London (£1,529 in London).
