University of Cambridge: highlights

The University of Cambridge, founded in 1209, ranks 6th in the QS World University Rankings 2027. Its Bangladesh guidance is blunt: applicants with the HSC alone are unlikely to succeed, and postgraduate applicants are expected to hold a master’s degree as well as a bachelor’s.

  • After HSC: Cambridge says HSC alone will not be competitive. It suggests A levels, the IB, 5 or more Advanced Placement tests at score 5 with a GPA of 5.00 in the HSC, or possibly a first year of university abroad.
  • For postgraduate study: A master’s degree after your bachelor’s, with GPA 3.5 out of 4 for the equivalent of a UK 2:1 and 3.75 for a first.
  • Tuition: £30,798 to £46,872 a year for international bachelor’s students starting in 2027 (medicine £70,554), fixed for the course, plus a college fee.
  • Living costs: About £1,330 a month for bachelor’s students and £20,700 a year for postgraduates in 2027-28.
  • Deadlines: UCAS in mid-October for a bachelor’s. MPhil Advanced Computer Science closes on 25 February 2027, with funding deadlines months earlier.

Like Oxford, Cambridge is a collegiate university. You apply to a college or make an open application, and the college provides accommodation and small-group supervisions. International students pay a college fee on top of university tuition.

How to apply

  1. Check your qualification

With HSC alone, plan for A levels, the IB or strong AP results first. For postgraduate study, finish a master’s degree.

  2. Bachelor’s: apply through UCAS by the October deadline

You also complete Cambridge’s additional form, and many courses need an admissions test and an interview.

  3. Postgraduate: apply through the Applicant Portal

Apply by the funding deadline if you want to be considered for scholarships.

  4. Show you can pay

Cambridge asks offer holders to show they can cover fees and living costs for the course.

  5. Apply for the UK Student visa

Use your CAS, a TB test certificate from an IOM clinic and 28 days of financial evidence.
