The short version
- After HSC: many Canadian universities accept HSC directly. UBC lists the Higher Secondary Certificate or Intermediate Certificate as its general requirement for Bangladesh.
- Certified documents: UBC accepts photocopies certified by your school principal, head or counsellor, but not notarised copies.
- After acceptance: most undergraduate and college students then need a PAL, usually after paying part or all of the first-year tuition.
- Master’s: set by each programme; thesis-based master’s often need a supervisor’s support.
Undergraduate entry
Canada is one of the few major destinations where HSC can lead straight into year one. Each degree adds its own subject requirements, for example mathematics for engineering or science, and you must meet the university’s English standard. Schools must be Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) for your study permit.
Master’s entry
Graduate programmes set their own grade, subject and English rules. Thesis-based master’s usually expect you to find a supervisor, and often come with funding; course-based master’s are usually self-funded. Master’s and PhD students at public institutions do not need a PAL.
