What schools ask for
Most undergraduate programmes ask for IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, and graduate programmes set their own rules. UBC applies its English Language Admission Standard, which you can meet in several ways. Save the exact test name and scores each programme accepts.
For the study permit
The Student Direct Stream, which had a fixed IELTS requirement, has closed. In the standard stream there is no fixed IRCC test score, so your school’s requirement is the one to meet, though officers can still assess whether you can follow your course.
French-taught programmes
Quebec and some other institutions teach in French. You may need French evidence such as the TEF instead of, or as well as, an English test, and Quebec students also need a CAQ.
