Two checks, one test
Your university sets the score for admission, and Home Affairs decides whether your visa needs English evidence. The Document Checklist Tool tells you what to attach for your passport and provider.
Tests approved for visas (taken from 7 August 2025)
For TOEFL iBT, select “Taking TOEFL for Australia” when you register, or the result may not be accepted. Tests taken on or before 6 August 2025 may still be used until 6 August 2028, depending on the visa.
Tests Home Affairs does not accept
Fully online or at-home tests are not accepted for Australian visas, including IELTS Online, TOEFL iBT Home Edition, OET@Home, LANGUAGECERT Academic Online, CELPIP Online and at-home MET Digital. Book a test at a secure centre in Bangladesh.
University scores
Most courses ask for IELTS Academic 6.0 to 6.5 overall, with higher scores for nursing, teaching and other professional degrees. Some providers accept a lower score if you also complete an English course (ELICOS) before your degree. Check the band minimums for every skill, not just the overall score.
