About Ireland: highlights

Ireland is an English-speaking EU country with 1-year master’s degrees and an open graduate work permission. Bangladeshi applications are handled by the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi, and you must pay part of your fees before applying.

  • Rough annual budget: about €21,000 to 40,000 a year for a business degree, combining non-EU tuition of €10,300 to 29,000 with at least €10,000 for living costs; Dublin rent often costs more.
  • Money to show: at least €10,000 in immediately available funds for courses over 8 months, with 6 months of bank statements.
  • Fees first: since 30 June 2025 you must pay at least €6,000 of tuition (or the full fee if lower) before a visa is granted.
  • Visa costs: €60 single-entry or €100 multiple-entry, then €300 for your Irish Residence Permit after arrival.
  • Work while studying: 20 hours a week in term and 40 in designated holidays, on a course listed on the ILEP.
  • After graduation: Stamp 1G gives 12 months after an honours bachelor’s and up to 24 months after a master’s or PhD.

Step by step from Bangladesh

  1. Get an unconditional offer

The course must be on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes (ILEP) to carry student work rights.

  2. Pay your fees

Pay at least €6,000, or the full fee if it is lower, before you apply.

  3. Take an approved English test

Every study visa needs one; applying without it leads to refusal.

  4. Prepare your finances

Show at least €10,000 for living costs plus access to later years’ costs. Consolidate your money; spreading it across many sponsors raises the risk of refusal.

  5. Apply online through AVATS

Complete the form, then print and sign it. You can apply up to 5 months before your course starts.

  6. Submit documents to the New Delhi office

Follow the Embassy of Ireland’s current instructions for Bangladeshi residents on submitting documents and paying the fee.

  7. Wait for the decision

Allow time for documents to reach New Delhi as well as for processing.

  8. Register after arrival

Register with immigration for your Irish Residence Permit and pay €300.

Work during and after your studies

20 hrs/weekDuring term
40 hrs/weekIn designated holidays
€14.15/hourMinimum wage, age 20+, from 2026

While you study

Work rights come with Stamp 2 permission on an ILEP-listed course. A similar course that is not on the list does not carry the same rights.

After you graduate

Stamp 1G gives 12 months after an honours bachelor’s, or up to 24 months after a master’s or PhD (12 months plus a 12-month renewal you must apply for). You can work full time in any role without an employment permit.

Ireland intakes and deadlines

Main intake

September

Most programmes start in September. Apply early to leave time to pay fees and prepare your visa, which you can lodge up to 5 months before the course.

Second intake

January

Some postgraduate programmes admit in January. Fewer courses and scholarships are open.

Your preparation timeline

  1. 18 to 12 months before: Research courses, eligibility, funding and scholarship deadlines.
  2. 12 to 9 months before: Prepare language tests, transcripts, references and your shortlist.
  3. 9 to 6 months before: Submit applications by each programme’s actual deadline.
  4. 6 to 3 months before: Meet offer conditions, arrange funding and prepare visa documents.
  5. 3 to 1 months before: Apply for the visa and plan accommodation and arrival.

Keep these dates separate

A course start date, your fee payment, the visa window and a scholarship deadline are separate dates. You can apply for the visa up to 5 months before your course starts.

English tests and exams

IELTS Academic 6.0 to 6.5 overall, with 5.5 to 6.0 in each part, is a typical undergraduate baseline, rising for competitive and postgraduate programmes. An approved English test is compulsory for every Irish study visa.

For admission

Some universities accept their own pre-sessional English course for applicants just below the required score.

For the visa

Use a test on the Irish Immigration approved list; English-medium study alone is not enough.
