University of Sheffield

The university grew out of Sheffield Medical School (1828), Firth College (1879) and Sheffield Technical School (1884). In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, 92% of its research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent. Its Students’ Union was the highest ranked in the UK every year from 2017 to 2024.

Sheffield was named Student Experience University of the Year 2026 by the Times and Sunday Times, and High Fliers’ 2026 report places it 20th among universities targeted by top UK graduate employers.

These are the overseas fees for 2027-28 entry from each course page. Sheffield guarantees the fee will not rise during your course.

Bachelor’s fees for 2027-28 run from £27,650 to £34,670, apart from Medicine and Dentistry. Self-funded master’s students pay a £2,000 tuition deposit.

The score you need also depends on which university you attended. If you fall short for a master’s, the International College runs Pre-Masters programmes in business, social sciences and humanities, and in science and engineering.

English language scores

The minimum is IELTS 6.0 for a bachelor’s and 6.5 for a master’s. The courses checked above all ask for IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each component. Some departments ask for more.

Sheffield admits once a year. All taught master’s programmes begin in late September, and the university states that there is no January or February intake.

The International College’s foundation and Pre-Masters programmes have their own start dates, so they can be a way to begin earlier than the next September.

1. Pick your route

   HSC students apply to the International College for a foundation year. A-level students and those with 2 years of a bachelor’s apply for the degree itself.

2. Bachelor’s: apply through UCAS

   The UCAS fee for 2027 entry is £34.50 for up to 5 choices. Apply by 13 January 2027 for equal consideration.

3. Master’s: apply on Sheffield’s online form

   For the courses checked here, Sheffield does not ask for references at the application stage.

4. Accept and pay the deposit

   Self-funded master’s students pay £2,000 before the CAS is issued.

5. Secure the scholarship date

   For the bachelor’s scholarship, make Sheffield your firm or insurance choice before 4pm UK time on 2 June 2027.

6. Apply for the UK Student visa

   Use your CAS, a TB test certificate from an IOM clinic and 28 days of financial evidence.

For a master’s, Bangladeshi applicants should look at Chevening, Commonwealth and GREAT Scholarships instead.

Sheffield is cheaper than London and most southern cities. The university shares average monthly spending reported by students, not including rent.

For the visa you must show £1,171 a month for 9 months (£10,539), rising to £1,203 a month for applications from 30 November 2026, on top of your first year of tuition.

What one year costs in total

A one-year master’s at £36,055 plus 12 months of living costs comes to roughly £46,800 to £50,400. A bachelor’s year in Business Management comes to roughly £35,700 to £38,400 over 9 months, before the £2,500 scholarship.
