About Finland: highlights

Finland offers English-taught degrees, tuition waivers at many universities and one of the most generous post-study job-seeking permits. For Bangladeshi students the main practical hurdle is that identity checks for the residence permit happen at the Finland Application Centre in New Delhi.

  • Rough annual budget: about €20,000 to 34,000 a year, combining typical non-EU tuition of €9,000 to 20,000 with living costs of €900 to 1,200 a month.
  • Money to show: €9,600 in your account for courses of a year or more (€800 a month for shorter study). Future work income cannot count.
  • Permit cost: €600 for a first student residence permit applied for online, up from €450 on 1 January 2026.
  • Identity check abroad: after applying on Enter Finland, you book a VFS appointment in New Delhi to prove your identity.
  • Work while studying: an average of 30 hours a week over the permit period.
  • After graduation: a 2-year permit to look for work or start a business, which you can apply for up to 5 years after your study permit ends.

Step by step from Bangladesh

  1. Apply in the joint application

  2. Accept your place

Pay the first year’s tuition or confirm your waiver.

  3. Prepare your funds

Hold €9,600 in your own account; future work income does not count for a first permit.

  4. Apply on Enter Finland

Submit the residence permit application online and pay €600.

  5. Book your VFS appointment in New Delhi

Prove your identity at the Finland Application Centre. Allow time for travel and any Indian visa you need.

  6. Verify documents if needed

Bangladeshi certificates to be legalised must first be verified by VFS (about €140 each), which can take 45 days or more.

  7. Wait for the decision

Apply as soon as you accept your place; processing slows before the autumn intake.

  8. Travel and register

Collect your permit card, travel, and register your address in Finland.

Work during and after your studies

€10 to 14/hourTypical student pay

While you study

The limit is an average, not a weekly cap, so you can work more in some weeks and less in others. Jobs can be hard to find without Finnish or Swedish, so do not rely on wages to pay tuition.

After you graduate

The residence permit to look for work lasts 2 years and can also be used to start a business. You must have completed your degree, and you can apply within 5 years of your study permit ending.

Finland intakes and deadlines

Main intake

August / September

The joint application for English-taught bachelor’s and master’s programmes starting in autumn 2027 runs from 7 to 21 January 2027.

Second intake

January

A smaller round for January 2027 starts ran from 31 August to 10 September 2026. Fewer programmes take part.

Your preparation timeline

  1. 18 to 12 months before: Research courses, eligibility, funding and scholarship deadlines.
  2. 12 to 9 months before: Prepare language tests, transcripts, references and your shortlist.
  3. 9 to 6 months before: Submit applications by each programme’s actual deadline.
  4. 6 to 3 months before: Meet offer conditions, arrange funding and prepare visa documents.
  5. 3 to 1 months before: Apply for the visa and plan accommodation and arrival.

Keep these dates separate

Finland uses fixed joint application rounds: 7 to 21 January 2027 for programmes starting in August or September 2027. Scholarship applications usually go in with your admission application.

English tests and exams

Selection methods and English requirements are set by each university and programme. English-taught degrees are common, especially at master’s level, but daily life and part-time jobs often need some Finnish or Swedish.

Bachelor’s selection

Some bachelor’s routes use an entrance exam, sometimes held once a year or remotely, or accept SAT scores.

Master’s selection

Usually based on your degree, grades, motivation letter and an English test. Check the accepted tests and minimum scores for your programme.
